Makeup Revolution | The One Foundation + Concealer | REVIEW

Hello everyone!

I'm sure by now most of you have heard of Makeup Revolution
If you haven't, let me fill you in.

The budget beauty brand has hit the blogosphere by storm - I've read countless reviews singing their praises so of course I wanted to see what all the fuss was about for myself! I honestly love how they've built a real connection with us bloggers via social media. It's great to see a brand take such a liberal approach and keen interest in their customers. Those lovely people at Makeup Revolution sent a few things my way to test and trial so that I could help you decide if they're the products for you! First items up, The One Foundation & Concealer.

THE ONE FOUNDATION

£4

Makeup Revolution are a brand of many stand out products, but it was The One foundation which stood out the most to me. Why? Well I've been using liquid foundations to varying degrees of thickness for a good long while now and yes, while they work for me, they can sometimes be a little heavy on the face. For Summer, it's all about the lightweight champions and at £4 a pop, The One, with a whole bunch of good blog reviews to boot seemed to be worth a try!

It's been dubbed as the dupe for a couple of high end lightweight foundations, none of which I've tried so I unfortunately I can't compare it to those. What I can say is that The One ticks a lot of boxes for me and does feel quite luxe on the skin. It comes in a dinky little bottle, only a little taller than my middle finger, which is squeezable so you can pour the liquid out. I do really like the packaging, it's different from the usual clear bottles and I can imagine it'd be a dream to travel with. One, because it would take up a miniscule amount of space in your makeup bag and two, because the formula is just so lightweight and fresh. If you're jetting off somewhere hot, no doubt you'll want an evened out skin tone without all the cake. The One will do just that for you in a couple of squeezes.

How do I go about using it?
Yes, it's a bit different to what I've used before so I really did wonder what the best way to use it would be. I would imagine a brush would absolutely drink it up, so for me dabbling with my fingers was the way to go. I'd say a beauty blender or such dupe would do the job if you're not a fan of the hands on approach.

For such a runny foundation, you'd expect it to give little to no coverage, right?
Well, Makeup Revolution claim for The One to be full coverage and in my opinion that's a bold claim to make. It can be built up but I'd say it's most definitely on the lighter side of the coverage spectrum. However, what impressed me was that once you start swirling it around it does start to become a little creamier and blends really well on the skin. It dries down to a pretty much matte finish and feels like you aren't wearing anything.

Another big plus is the shade range!
For a drugstore foundation the shade range is not to be sniffed at, going from very pale to very dark with 14 shades in between. Shade 2 is the one I have and wow. Seriously, wow. I've never owned a foundation which suited my skin so well! As it says on the box, it adapts to your own tone and texture. Usually I'm a bit dubious about 'adapting' foundations but this seems to really do the trick.

As for lasting power, here's what happened when I road tested it on a day out.
I applied at around 10am onto non-primed, moisturised skin. I then left the house to run errands for about an hour and it was holding up really well. After that, I went shopping in a busy shopping centre on a warm day so as you could guess, that took it's toll and at about 5pm when I got home I looked in the mirror and it was nearly all gone. Note, it wasn't patchy, just barely noticeable anymore. Also note I did not prime nor powder, so doing so would likely give it some extra wear time.

(I don't really know why/how I wrote such a long piece on such a teeny tiny foundation - I just didn't want to miss out any details, you get me?)

THE ONE CONCEALER

£3

To go alongside the foundation, Makeup Revolution have launched a concealer which consists of an inner core of well, concealer and an outer ring of moisturising goodness. The aim is to create a creaseless cover all. My thoughts?

I was really intrigued as I've never used anything like it before. My usual concealer, the infamous Collection Lasting Perfection packs a serious punch in terms of coverage whereas this is a much lighter offering. However, that's not to say I don't like it though - I don't want a heavy base every day of the week and year! The coverage is very natural which I put down to the creamy moisture ring. For those days when you only want to wear a smudge of concealer here and there, this is the product to use - it blends so seamlessly with the skin and doesn't cake or settle into any places you don't want it to. I like swirling and then dabbing with my finger to achieve the best results.

Overall, I really like this duo and will be wearing them throughout Summer. I'm intrigued to see how well I like them in the colder months so I'll keep you posted!

Have you tried these Makeup Revolution goodies?
Do you think you'll be cutting down on coverage for Summer?
