Makeup Revolution | Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer in 'Keep Trying For You' | REVIEW

Hello everyone!

If you're local to the land of beauty, you've probably heard of a brand called Makeup Revolution. Personally, I think they're on top of their game, with new products all the time and all for amazing prices. "But are they really worth the hype?" I hypothetically hear you ask. Well, the brand themselves kindly sent me a few items to try and let you know what I thought. Today's muse? Their Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer.

So what makes this lippy different?

Well, the Salvation Velvet Lip Lacquer's are Makeup Revolution's answer to matte lips. Personally I think a matte lip helps a look seem more glamorous without looking like you've tried too much. Funny enough, this red shade is named 'Keep Trying For You'!

The APPLICATION, FORMULATION & PIGMENTATION

If you're a fan of sheer lip colours then steer clear my friends, this lip lacquer offers pigmentation and then some. For full on intense lip colour lovers like myself it's a dream. The formula is creamy to apply and not especially drying but does have a dry feel when you lick your lips. In all honesty, I think that's what you sign up for with a matte lip and it's not really too bothering if you don't lick your lips all the time. I recommend prepping your lips with a lip scrub and balm beforehand to get the best finish. Oh, and if you love a pigmented lip but the matte look not so much, you can always apply this and then a gloss over the top!

The PACKAGING

The outer packaging is very striking, that gold is definitely a pleaser in my books. As for the tube itself, it's a really simple and sleek design with gold touches that also ticks boxes for me. My one problem is the doe foot applicator. I mean, it's fine, but it's more suited to sheer glosses in my opinion. If you want really defined edges then I suggest lining the lips first or using a lip brush to smooth the lines. The latter option is my favourite as this way, I can ensure the colour is the same and I can completely manage how smooth I want the lines.

The LASTING POWER

I've found that once applied, it does take a little while for it to fully mattify but once it's on the lips, it really is on to stay. It lasts a very respectable 7 hours on me until starting to fade a little around the inside, but oily food choices can put it under pressure. I had a packet of Ready Salted about six hours after applying and have to say it did stand up pretty well against what I'm calling 'The Crisp Test', which basically consists of lots of licking salt off the lips. After an hour it was fading a little more and I rubbed it off to leave a nice red stain. Removal would be made easiest with an oil-based cleanser, but as I don't have one I've been using either Garnier's Softening Cleansing Lotion (my review here) or their Micellar Water (a relatively new addition for me, review to come soon!) and they both work wonderfully.

In one sentence:
Highly pigmented, matte and it lasts - just be careful when eating!
